Welcome to The Crown at Marnhull

This most enchanting of old pubs in the middle of rural Dorset has been offering a warm welcome, good ale and food for 500 years or more. Thomas Hardy was a visitor here and used it in his book “Tess of the d’Urbervilles”. Today the pub sells fine Badger ales and home cooked food is served lunchtimes and evenings. With an extensive menuoffering snacks, starters, main courses and puddings. It has a large car park and once inside the many tables ensure there is always somewhere to sit. To the rear is a beautiful beer garden with plenty of seating and external heating.

The Crown painted by Chris SharpThe Crown

This lovely, part thatched, 16th century building boasts many original features. A Priest hole that once led to St Gregory’s Church can still be seen.

I’m sure Thomas Hardy would have had a beer or two in front of the fire when he was deciding what a miserable life poor Tess was to have.
